Subcontract Shot Peening Services
Prepared for Performance
Wheelabrator Impact Finishers applies fatigue enhancing, controlled, automated shot peening processes to most metallic/alloyed components incorporated in a motorsport racing vehicle, and these processes are being applied more and more commonly to everyday motor vehicles.
The applications for shot peening in automotive engineering are highly varied and are applicable to most high cyclic stress loading environment conditions.
Prolong Resistance to Fatigue
Shot peening works by reversing the classic effects of tensile stress and the resultant potential for fatigue crack initiation and subsequent catastrophic failure. The peening process induces a compressive layer at the surface of an alloy preventing crack initiation and significantly prolonging the resistance to fatigue failure or often preventing it entirely.
This process can benefit a wide variety of components such as gears, drive shafts, pinions, clutch components, con rods, pistons, crank shafts and casings, amongst others. Even structural elements such as frames, chassis, wish bones and brake components can derive a considerable benefit from the process.
Prepared for Performance - for Formula 1
Wheelabrator Impact Finishers, the subcontract shot peening division of Wheelabrator Group is the expert in the application of shot peening through effective utilisation of controlled automated equipment and a comprehensive quality management system. This approach enables the process to be accurately repeated by controlling vital and variable process parameters. This level of attention to detail is just one reason why Impact Finishers is employed by teams at the very front of the F1 grid, where margins for error are so notoriously tight.
Utilising a whole range of shot peening media to deliver the right application for our customers is very important and Impact Finishers constantly develops new processes incorporating both traditional and more uncommon materials in the peening processes; these materials include ceramics, glass bead, various steel shot and also stainless steel shot.
The high level of service so often demanded by the motorsport industry is also well catered for at Impact Finishers. The company offers a range of subcontract shot peening service levels including ‘while you wait’ as well as advice, development partnerships, and absolute confidentiality.
The service, technical experience and quality of the Impact Finishers business is backed up by a long list of aerospace approvals including Rolls Royce, NADCAP and ISO 9001:2008. The attention to quality results in specialist motorsport and automotive shot peening without compromise.
