Wheelabrator Automated Peening System for Blades - Airfoil Section

airfoil blade peening

Wheelabrator Automated Airblast Peening Systems are designed keeping in mind the exacting standards and specifications of the Aerospace industry.

The peening system for airfoil sections takes into account various aspects of the blade profile and geometry.

For large volumes of smaller size blades, Wheelabrator has numerous proven installations of indexing style machines. In such machines, peening is carried out using metallic media such as steel shot and cut wire. Where specified, machines are also designed for peening airfoils with non-metallic media such as glass bead and ceramic. Indexing tables typically process atleast two parts simultaneously to ensure that the machine keeps up with production rate requirements.

For smaller volumes of large size blades such as in land-based turbines, Wheelabrator systems process individual blades on a batch style rotating table. A multi-axis nozzle manipulator, complete with servo-based controls ensure that the nozzle(s) follows the airfoil profile, thereby ensuring a constant stand-off distance. This could be critical in ensuring consistent peening results.

Wheelabrator’s intuitive and ‘easy to use’ controls ensure process repeatability and consistency of results.

The Wheelabrator Automated Airblast Peening Machine for airfoil sections is completely tested and proven out at our manufacturing facility to ensure a ‘plug-and-play’ system when it arrives at your plant.
