Wheelabrator has launched a new range of wire mesh belt shot blast machines for medium-duty applications. 

The new machines, type CMS, sit between the freshly updated high-capacity, heavy-duty CMC range for foundry applications and the company’s light LBS for non-foundry. Together they complete Wheelabrator’s mesh belt machine offering.

Mesh belt machines are perfect for applications where parts are too big or too delicate for tumblast processes. Powerful blast wheels clean from above and below at optimised angles as parts pass through the machine on the mesh belt. Machines of this type integrate seamlessly into production lines and are able to blast large quantities of mixed parts quickly and consistently.

The new CMS machines were developed to offer a medium blast capacity in a highly efficient, continuous blast process for parts that are not tumble-proof. The mesh belt onto which parts are loaded and transported through the machine is 800mm or 1250mm wide and positioned at an ergonomic loading height.

The two machines in the range come with four or eight 22kW U70 blast wheels respectively. These proven, highly effective wheels deliver an optimised blast pattern and efficient blasting from all sides.

Compact and reliable

The new CMS machines feature a compact design and require only a shallow pit, offering flexibility as well as fast transport and assembly.

The blast cabin is made of manganese steel and clad with exchangeable manganese liners in hot-spot areas. The liners are screwed in for ease of maintenance. The mesh belt itself is also made of manganese steel, to ensure a maximum operating life of this key wear part.

Vulkolan/rubber curtains seal off the blast cabin to prevent abrasive from escaping. A blow-off cabin is available as an option to further contain abrasive and clear parts of any remaining shot before exiting the machine.

Stanislav Venclik, who oversaw the development of the new range at Wheelabrator, explains: “This new range fills the last remaining gap in our mesh belt offering for foundries. Medium-capacity, medium-duty applications are in demand and the CMS machines fit this spec perfectly. They are less expensive than heavy-duty machines, without compromising on durability and performance.
