The Compact Spinner-Hanger Blast Machine for Aluminium Parts

Wheelabrator has designed a compact blast machine, specifically for aluminium applications. Based on our trusted batch-type spinner-hanger wheel blast concept, the new SPH-2-3/8 excels at descaling, deburring/deflashing and cleaning of a variety of aluminium parts. Optimising the machine for this application enabled the design team to also reduce its price significantly.

Like other members of the SPH spinner hanger family, the new machine features two blast chambers that form two halves of a cylinder rotating around the vertical axis. This enables simultaneous loading/unloading and blasting, which in turn results in a more efficient use both of space and of the two blast wheels.

Our design engineers based the new machine on an existing model in the SPH spinner hanger blast cleaning range (SPH-2-3/9), which was designed for a broader range of applications and therefore required heavier construction. By matching the new SPH-2-3/8 exactly to the needs of aluminium applications, a lighter and slimmer design could be achieved. A pleasant side effect: the final machine price is considerably lower compared to the heavier machine.

A step change in performance

At the same time, blast power and abrasive throughput have been increased considerably compared to the SPH-2-3/9 (total abrasive throughput was increased from 174kg/min to 300kg/min). 

This step change in performance is due to the SPH-2-3/8’s two state-of-the-art TITAN 14.3 blast wheels (double disk, eight blades, wear parts made of tool steel), which achieve better blast results faster, thanks to their higher input power and blast power.
