- British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEAs) - New Product (Mechanical) of the Year
- British Engineering Excellence Awards - Design Team of the Year
- Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Innovation Awards - Manufacturing Technology
COMET HD, Wheelabrator’s recently launched blast wheel, has been shortlisted this year for three prestigious awards:
The BEEAs, which took place in October, saw the COMET HD wheel shortlisted alongside innovations from some of the biggest names in manufacturing technology, including JCB and Jaguar Land Rover.
The awards aim to demonstrate and promote the quality of engineering design within the UK and provide a benchmark of excellence from which the industry can learn and from which it can build.
You can view the shortlist and eventual winners on the BEEAs website.
The Innovation Awards, the IET’s annual prestigious awards ceremony, celebrate the very best innovations from both industry and academia, sharing landmark work and developments taking place across many important areas of science, engineering and technology. In a ceremony hosted by adventurer and TV presenter Rob Bell, the shortlisted entries were showcased to all attendees. The awards, which took place in mid-November, attracted a large number of big-name entries, with finalists in the Manufacturing Technology category including Airbus in the UK and Laing O’Rourke, as well as Wheelabrator.
Vanessa Ashworth, Vice President of Marketing Communications for Wheelabrator said: “Developing COMET has been an eye-opening process which allowed us to question the very fundamentals of blast wheel design. Through a process of iterative development we have delivered the best blast wheel yet, with tangible cost-saving and time-saving benefits to our customers. Being shortlisted for these awards is a real recognition of the considerable innovation and engineering expertise which the team have put into the development of COMET HD.”
