BMD (then Badische Maschinenfabrik & Eisengiesserei) developed and patented the world’s first centrifugal wheelblast machine in Durlach, Germany in the late 19th century. In 1937, BMD started making wheelblast machines under Wheelabrator licence.
In 1996, BMD was part of a joint venture with Georg Fischer and DISA that later became part of Wheelabrator. Their joint portfolio created the basis for many of our foundry shot blast technologies today. The name BMD gradually disappeared from machine badges. Any equipment still bearing the BMD name is likely to be more than 20 years old.
